Skill Development Initiatives for Unskilled Youth in India

A developing country like India, has great potential at growth for the simple reason of it's hard-working and talented youth. We have the minds, and the skill to accomplish our goals and all we require is a push. There should never be a set limit, the goal should always be sky high and the reason for a back-drop in the development domain lies in the fact that the maximum potential has not reached. We have powerful and enthusiastic youth but the need to inculcate the right skills need programs that would help them move forward and exactly why, Skill development programs were launched in the country for the Unskilled youth. The mission of the program is to train around 40 crore people in different vocational areas by the end of year 2022.

Hence, the government launched four separate initiatives to hone the talents of the unskilled Indian youth, Including,

• National Skill Development Mission
• The Skill Loan Scheme
• Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)
• National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship

These efforts were made by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in coordination with the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) and Centum Learning with the vision to achieve results by providing skill development opportunities to 40 crore, of the Indian youth by the year 2022.

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)
The flagship program PMKVY began with Bihar as its pilot state, since a large number of youth in Bihar is unemployed and seeks this golden opportunity. The government partnered up with telecom service providers, as well as skill developers leading them to reach out a vast audience base and great training centers.

Increasing skilled labor will definitely help the nation to increase productivity. The most pressing obstacle that the government will face would be to attract the students to the classrooms, in order to engage into skill building activities. The most important issue that we face is that of carelessness and unawareness. This is where, the telecom companies come into action, they'd help in increasing awareness, and spreading relevant information.

Skill Loan Scheme for the Needy
The Skill Loan Scheme sanctioned loans to almost 34 lakh youth who are looking to engage in the skill development program in the coming five years. They have been given money between 5,000 to 1.5 lakh to encourage them to get enrolled into the vocational courses. As the training will be completed, a skill card will be given to the successful candidates. This would work as a proper resume of the candidate to apply for jobs. Up until now, about 2,33,000 youth received certificates from institutes offering industrial training and almost 18,000 and above graduates got placed into jobs. The numbers are still running up.

With the Increase participation of the youth, we could be able to imagine a prospect of our nation with skilled labor and more awareness. The National skill development mission, if reaches its goal, would help in building a back-bone for young entrepreneurs to try out their hand in the business domain. Even the United Kingdom has entered into a partnership with India under this program. Virtual interactions would be made possible for students to understand different cultures and schooling environment. It would end up as a brilliant exposure for the young students.
